Club Room Allocation Process

This is a reminder that all Club room applications will be available on UBLinked starting on Friday, February 1, 2019. Club room assignments are given by the Student Unions.  Room assignments are allocated for officially recognized organizations only.  The term of use is June 18, 2019 – May 15, 2020.

We will evaluate the organization’s application based on the criteria set below. The application is due March 15, 2019.

 Criteria

Student Unions will consider the following:

  1. Organization is recognized by the university, via UBLinked
  • If your group is not currently registered, email Jude Butch, Senior Associate Director for Student Engagement, at jcbutch@buffalo.edu
  1. Abides by the Guidelines and Polices of the Student Union
  2. Nature and size of your organization
  3. Previous use of space
  4. Only permanent clubs may apply.  Clubs with temporary status are not eligible to apply for space

As stated in the Student Unions Club room Guidelines Agreement, space allocated to a given organization shall be subject to termination or modification.  The Club room Guidelines Agreement is available in the Student Unions Office.

2019 Natural Hazards Student Research Grant

The UB Center for Geohazards Studies is pleased to announce a research grant opportunity for graduate students to support research in any discipline that is related to natural hazards.

All applications materials must be received by  March 1, 2019 at 5:00 PM EST. Funds are available for projects to start on July 1, 2019

Eligible individuals must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University at Buffalo and be a member of the Center for GeoHazards Studies

GSA Webmaster Job Posting

The GSA is currently hiring a Webmaster for the Spring and Summer semesters.  A description of the position is attached.  If you are interested in the posting, please email the required materials listed to the GSA Vice President, Connor Walters, at gsa-vicepresident@buffalo.edu by Friday, February 8th in order to be considered.  Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students who have paid their mandatory student activity fee and must be able to serve for the full term of the position.

Spring Data Science Fellowship Opportunity

Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. In response to the overwhelming interest in our earlier sessions, we will be holding another fellowship.

Who Should Apply: Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome. Everyone else is encouraged to sign-up for a future session.

Locations: In addition to the below in-person locations, we will have a remote online session:

  • New York City
  • San Francisco Bay Area
  • Boston
  • Washington, DC.

Dates: All sections will be from 2019-04-01 to 2019-05-24.

GSA Office Winter Break Schedule

The GSA Office Winter Break schedule will be as follow:

  • Office open through Monday, December 17th
  • Office closed Tuesday, December 18th – Monday, January 7th
  • Office on Summer Hours Monday, January 7th – Friday, January 25th
    • Open Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:00pm, Closed on Fridays
  • Office closed Monday, January 21st for MLK Jr. Day (University Closed)
  • Regular Business Hours resume Monday, January 28th

Volunteers needed for 50/50 Raffles at Bills Games!

Buffalo Bills 50/50 Raffle

o   When: Sunday, December 9th from 9:15am-3:00pm (approximate end time)
o   Where: New Era Field- 1 Bills Dr., Orchard Park, NY 14127
o   What: Assist with selling 50/50 tickets
o   Details: We will have parking passes and credentials that must be picked up before the game at the Oishei Children’s Hospital volunteer office on the 2nd floor near Joe’s Deli the week prior to the game. All volunteers will need  to arrive by 9:15 a.m. for orientation on the day of the game at New Era Field (December 9th).

SBI Spring Programming Grants Now Available

Spring 2019 SBI Programming Grant applications are due Tuesday, February 12th.

All grant applications must include the signature of the GSA Treasurer in order to be considered, so please make sure to bring all applications to the GSA office (310 Student Union) by Monday, February 11th at 4:30pm in order for them to be signed.

“The primary purpose of the Programming Grant is to fund programs that further the quality of student life, and enrich the educational, cultural and social experiences at the University at Buffalo. In light of these goals, organizations that receive awards are to use them to launch new programs, expand existing programs, or produce publications.”

Grants of up to $3,000.00 may be awarded to any recognized university affiliated student organization.

The application is attached here, and hard copies can be picked up from the GSA Office (310 Student Union) or the SBI Office (341 Student Union). The deadline for submission is Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. Please note that this is a rigid deadline, after which grant applications will not be accepted.

SBI Programming Grant Notifications will be distributed to the grant applicants by Wednesday, February 20th by 4:30pm.
