Launch of University at Buffalo Art of Research Competition

Dear Colleagues,

As a premier public research university, we constantly strive to inspire innovative ways for students to share their research and knowledge. Through the Art of Research competition, University at Buffalo graduate students and postdoctoral scholars can showcase their extraordinary research through original images highlighting the inherent beauty in research, scholarship and creative activity.

Currently enrolled University at Buffalo master’s and doctoral students and currently appointed University at Buffalo postdoctoral scholars are invited to submit an image they created along with a brief description of how it relates to their overall research. Submissions may include photographs, illustrations, visualizations, and renderings and may include anything produced in the course of performing research in any discipline.

Entries will be judged on their creativity, aesthetic appeal, how well their image demonstrates or reflects their research, their caption, and the overall artistic and visual impact. There will be a total of eight winners:

  • Grand Prize: $1,000
  • Judges Choice (six available): $500 each
  • People’s Choice: $500 (Determined by an attendee vote during the live event).

Entries will be exhibited during a live reception at the Buffalo Museum of Science on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., where the winning submissions will be announced. In addition, all participants will have the opportunity to discuss their research with attendees during the reception.

We look forward to this inaugural event, where researchers from all disciplines will have a stage to make their research accessible to broad public audiences. Please encourage your eligible students to participate. The deadline to submit is Wednesday, March 1, at 5 p.m.

Sincerely,

Graham
