On April 9 – 12, 2018 the following offices will be filled through a general election of graduate students at UB:

PRESIDENT

VICE PRESIDENT

TREASURER

The stipends for each of these positions will be $14,500 and the elected officers must be present and available to serve in the duties of their office from June 1, 2018 until May 31, 2019.

Any student enrolled in a department that is currently represented by GSA, who is in good academic standing, and has attended two Senate meetings in the past twelve months prior to becoming a candidate shall be eligible to run for office.  If you have not yet attended any GSA Senate meetings, the remaining meeting dates to fulfill this requirement are February 7, 2018 and March 7, 2018.

*Please note that international students holding an assistantship or any other employment will be restricted by federal work regulations and may not be eligible to run for office under United States Law.*

Petition packets for candidacy are now available in the GSA office (310 Student Union) and are due back to the Election Committee Chair by Monday, March 5, 2018 at 4:30pm.  Absolutely NO late submissions will be accepted.

All prospective candidates must attend a mandatory meeting with members of the Election Committee where the Election Rules and Regulations will be handed out and reviewed.  Meetings will be arranged between prospective candidates and the Election Committee to occur between Wednesday, March 7, 2018 and Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

Call for Volunteers: Pedagogy and Design Committee

Are you interested in pedagogy & design? Want to have your voice heard at UB? The UB Pedagogy & Design Committee is looking for student members. Email Tanja Aho (gsa-president@buffalo.edu) if you would like to serve!

This is a standing committee whose work contributes to the review and assessment of instructional facilities at the university, the recommendation of policies and processes for classroom utilization, and the development of a running three year plan for classroom renewal.

Core responsibilities of the the Pedagogy and Design Committee include recommending improvements to instructional facilities that integrate student learning with classroom design; identifying and recommending learning environments required to deliver all educational programs at UB; working with colleagues to develop physical design and online learning standards for learning environments; and developing renovation cost models for learning environments by space type and size.

This committee is the primary source of faculty and student input into the process.

Free Tax Prep Services

Dear University Community:

On behalf of the School of Management, I am pleased to announce that our IRS-certified accounting students will again offer free tax preparation services to individuals and families with an annual income below $54,000. UB employees* are encouraged to take advantage of this service and to invite their families and neighbors to do the same.

Name UB’s International Eatery Contest

The third phase of UB’s Heart of the Campus (HOTC-3) initiative will bring an international eatery, currently being referred to as the global market café, to one of the busiest crossroads on the North Campus in 2020.The UB student community is being asked to select a permanent name for the university’s international eatery, as planning and development of the project moves forward. So, help name this international eatery and leave your legacy at UB!

Students interested in participating in the “Name UB’s International Eatery” contest may submit entries at www.buffalo.edu/name-the-eatery between Feb. 5 and 18. They can return to www.buffalo.edu/name-the-eaterybetween March 26 and April 1 to vote for their favorite name. Additional contest information, including how students can participate and prizes to be awarded, can be found at www.buffalo.edu/international-eatery

Remember – The contest starts on Monday, Feb. 5!

The winning entry will win a grand prize of $500 in dining dollars. The entry with the second highest number of votes will win a 2 place prize of $200 in dining dollars, and the entry with the third highest number of votes will win a 3 place prize of $100 in dining dollars.  One winner chosen for each prize.  The contest is spelled out on the site if they need more info.
