Buffalo-Niagara Pharmaceutical Sciences Networking Event

April 24 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Buffalo-Niagara Local Pharmaceutical Sciences Event is an evening event in which the graduate students have the opportunity to meet with local pharmaceutical scientists from local academic and research institutions such as UB and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, various contract research organizations (Simulations Plus, ICPD and ePD) and prominent pharmacometrician in the field, Dr. David D’Argenio and Dr. Murali Ramanathan. Dr. David D’Argenio is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern and the inaugural holder of the Chonette Chair of Biomedical Technology. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. Dr. D’Argenio’s research program focuses on to develop, evaluate, apply, and disseminate methods of QSP and pharmacometrics to advance model-based discovery, development, and precision use of medicines, leading to more effective treatments for life threatening diseases. The methods for QSP that his group has developed and applied are aimed at quantifying the mechanisms of action of different therapeutic modalities including small molecule and proteins drugs, cell and gene therapies, and protein degraders. Dr. Ramanathan is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is involved in clinical and translational research program in multiple sclerosis (MS) therapeutics. His group has extensive experience in pharmaceutical applications of “big data” and modeling analyses using machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques of large high-dimensional data sets containing environmental factors, genetic and immunological biomarkers, quantitative neuroimaging metrics and clinical measures in MS. The event will open with keynote speech that is open to the university from Dr. D’Argenio, and Dr. Ramanathan will be of interest to a variety of disciplines, including, but not limited to, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Pharmacology/Toxicology, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering. The graduate students will be invited to engage in a career development reception with as well as have the opportunity to meet the speakers and local scientists one-on-one to discuss research, network, and learn about opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry and academia. We firmly believe that providing graduate students with the opportunity to meet distinguished and leading scientists will enhance their graduate student experience and inspire them to strive for similar success. A detailed description of the event will be advertised appropriately, such that any interested person at the university might benefit from the event. UB-GSA will be visibly acknowledged as a cosponsor of the event.
