Petitions for the University Council Representative are now available!
Petitions can be picked up at the following locations.
- Online here
- Campus Life Office, 150 Student Union
- Student Association, 350 Student Union
- Graduate Student Association, 310 Student Union
Completed petitions must contain the printed name, signature, school of enrollment and person numbers of 300 students currently registered at the University at Buffalo. Duplicate signatures on an individual candidate’s petition shall be considered invalid.
Information on the University Council
The University Council serves as the primary oversight and advisory board to the University at Buffalo and its president and senior officers. This student representative sits on a 10-member board (the other officers appointed by the governor of the State of New York) and serves as the voice for all UB students.
The regular duties of the University Council include reviewing the university’s major plans and activities in the areas of academics, student life, finances, building and grounds, and then making recommendations to benefit the university in matters of community and alumni relations. A more detailed description of the roles and responsibilities of the University Council and be found in the New York State Education Law, Section 356.
University Council Student Representative
Any full-time University at Buffalo student is eligible to run for the University Council Student Representative. Responsibilities of the position include:
- Sitting on the University at Buffalo Council, which serves as the primary oversight and advisory body to the institution
- Represent the 30,000 students who attend the University at Buffalo
- Chair the Council of Advocacy and Leadership (COAL), a committee consisting of leadership from UB’s 7 student governments
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Faculty Staff Senate

Monday, March 12: Petitions made available at all locations; All Governmental Offices and Campus Life
Friday, April 6: Petitions are due by 1:00pm to Campus Life
Wednesday, April 11: Mandatory Candidate Meeting at 5:00pm in Campus Life, 150 Student Union
Wednesday, April 11: Campaigning begins following Mandatory Candidate Meeting
Thursday, April 12: Platforms due to Campus Life, 150 Student Union, by 5:00pm
Tuesday, April 17: Endorsements due to Luke Haumesser via email by 5:00pm
Tuesday, April 24: Elections held online beginning at 12:01am
Wednesday, April 25: Elections held online
Thursday, April 26: Elections held online and close at 5:00pm
Friday, April 27: Expenditure reports due no later than 5:00pm, when polling closes
Friday, April 27: Unofficial election results available
Monday, April 30: Official election results available
