UB Libraries

As a Research I university, the University at Buffalo maintains nine sizable and up-to-date research libraries. As a whole, the University at Buffalo Libraries hold nearly 4 million printed volumes. Students also have access to over 10,000 electronic journals and nearly 400 research databases, making UB one of the largest research libraries in New York. The university’s Delivery+ system also allows students to: order materials that are not owned by the University at Buffalo Libraries, order book chapters and journal articles to be delivered directly to their email, and have books pulled from the stacks for pick-up at one of the library circulation desks around the University.
While there are 9 branches to the University at Buffalo Libraries, most materials used by History graduate students can be found at Lockwood Arts and Sciences Library or Capen Undergraduate Library. Like Park Hall, which houses UB’s Department of History, both Lockwood and Capen are located on UB North Campus.
The University at Buffalo Libraries has an impressive collection of History-related materials, including databases, print and electronic journal subscriptions, printed volumes, and a sizable microform collection. Guides to these resources can be found here under “History & Archaeology.”
The University at Buffalo Libraries also has a librarian who specializes in History, Charles D’Aniello. While any reference librarian at UB can assist graduate students with general research questions, Charles D’Aniello’s knowledge of the libraries’ holdings and historical databases is unmatched, making him ideal of answering detail research questions. Charles D’Aniello has published works as both a librarian and a historian, and his research interests include the study of historical bibliographic and reference sources. Charles D’Aniello is also interested in new forms of digital media, and has been research and testing e-book readers over the last few years. Along with History, Charles D’Aniello is also the UB Libraries expert in American Studies, Philosophy, Religion, Political Science, and Asian Studies. To contact Charles D’Aniello, call him at (716) 645-2814 ext. 424, or send him an email at lclcharl@buffalo.edu
