Western New York Brain Bee
For the fifth consecutive year, the Neuroscience GSA helped organize the Western New York Brain Bee, a competition that tests high school students knowledge about the brain. NGSA members provided a review class for the high school participants and served as judges for the competition. An overview of the event can be found here.
Annual Invited Speaker
In May of 2014, the Neuroscience GSA invited its fourth annual invited speaker, Dr. R. Douglas Fields, Chief of Nervous System Development and Plasticity Section at the NIH. Click here for an overview of the event.
Brain Awareness Week Events
Throughout the Spring of 2014, the Neuroscience GSA was involved in multiple Brain Awareness Week events. NGSA members volunteered their time to teach elementary, middle school, and high school students about the brain. Local schools participating in the event included Hutch Tech, Heim Middle School, and PS 89 of Buffalo. Click here to see pictures and a description of this outreach.
Girl Scouts of WNY “Go to Neuro School”
This year the Neuroscience GSA expanded its student outreach to include the first annual “Go to Neuro School” event with the Girl Scouts of WNY. Neuroscience GSA members taught girl scouts about the brain and career opportunities in the sciences. Click here for more.
