Written By: Kaylie Bodmer

When I finished my Bachelors, I realized I had a choice to make. I knew I wanted to continue my education, but with what degree? Coming from the College of Arts and Sciences, the MBA seemed daunting. However, I knew I wanted to bridge the gap between communication studies and my passion for business and marketing.

When I discovered the Masters in Management, I was intrigued. This program seemed like the perfect transition, as it was made for non-business background students looking to gain business foundations. Upon doing more research, the 11-month track also caught my eye as a plausible and affordable option. I was able to connect with the School of Management’s amazing advising and enrollment team, and I quickly solidified that this was the right decision for me. It was easy to make the decision to continue my education at the University of Buffalo, as I built such an extensive community throughout my undergraduate years.

Now, I have experienced what this program has to offer and am more than satisfied with my decision. The program comprises of 18 core credits and 12 electives. The 12 electives gave me the freedom to choose my path and be able to take courses which aligned with my interests in healthcare and marketing. Not only that, but I also made friendships and formed connections beyond what I imagined. The MS in Management brings together such a diverse cohort of individuals from all experiences looking to gain this valuable business skillset.

Program Personalization

The program spoke to me so personally because it took my unique work experiences and managed to combine and touch upon all of them. Prior to my master’s I worked as a CNA with a passion for healthcare and advocacy. In this program I was able to take classes like Business Healthcare and US Health Policy. These courses allowed me to further my passion and connect healthcare with business and professional settings. Additionally, my experience in marketing has been heavily expanded upon.

My dream is to become a marketing manager, and the courses taken absolutely set me up for success. Some of my favorite marketing courses include marketing foundations, marketing planning, and management communications.

This program has urged me to shoot for the stars. The way in which my courses were set up allowed me to have the balance to work while pursuing my degree. I never thought I would be able to combine my passion for communication and nonprofit healthcare work and turn it into a business-centered future. However, this program continues to fill me with hope and excitement that a career like this is more than possible.

The classes themselves have encouraged me to learn new things, collaborate with diverse groups, and gain foundational understanding to succeed. I would recommend the UB Masters in Management to anybody looking to gain higher education in business foundations.
