The mission of the SCoPE lab is to better understand how people respond to a wide scope of adversity–both their own and that of others.  To that end, our research examines factors that promote or inhibit adjustment to adversity, with implications for mental and physical well-being.  In addition, we examine factors that promote or inhibit prosocial motivation and/or behavior in response to the suffering of others.  Much of our work lies at the intersection of these research areas, investigating the role of prosocial engagement in facilitating adjustment to personal adversity.
