The mission of the SCoPE lab is to better understand how people respond to a wide scope of adversity–both their own and that of others.

Our research focuses on two core themes:

  • Factors that promote or inhibit adjustment to adversity, with implications for mental and physical well-being.
  • Factors that promote or inhibit prosocial motivation and/or behavior in response to others’s adversity.

Much of our work lies at the intersection of these research areas, investigating the role of prosocial engagement in facilitating adjustment to personal adversity.
