Accessibility is a pressing topic in online education. How do we present our content in a way that is universally accessible to all of our students, regardless of their learning needs?
In an effort to promote the development and revising of accessible content across all courses, GSE Instructional Design & Development has developed an Accessibility Checklist to help you ensure you are creating accessible content.
What is the Accessibility Checklist?
When a course is reviewed by an instructional designer, the instructional designer will check the accessibility of your content to see if it meets accessibility standards. If it does not, the instructional designer will make recommendations on what changes can be made so that the content is properly presented. The Accessibility Checklists allows you, as the instructor, to perform an informal accessibility review of your course to increase the overall accessibility of the course.
The document is made up of two tables (Text Elements and Multimedia Elements) that identify a content item, offer a brief description when necessary, and then offers a checklist of basic tasks that when performed (or if already met) will ensure for a universally accessible piece of content.
