Geology Department Spring Party – 05/06

SAVE THE DATE!!! In years past, the GGSA has hosted an annual winter party as a semi-formal socializing and networking event for all Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, and Family of UB Geology to get out of the office and connect with others. With restrictions due to COVID-19, this event has not occurred for the past 2 years. We are excited to announce the revival of this event and encourage all affiliates of the department aged 18 and over to attend. This will be a 4-hour ticketed event inclusive of entertainment, a buffet meal, and a 2-hour open bar (for an extra fee). Pre-purchased Ticket, ID, signed liability waiver, and proof of a negative COVID-19 test from the previous 72 hours are required for event admittance. Ticket Prices and Purchase location are to be announced soon. We look forward to seeing you there.

Upcoming Outreach Event – Penn Dixie’s 20th Annual WNY Earth Science Day

When: Saturday, 10/7 from 9 am – 4 pm
Where:  Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve – 4050 North Street, Blasdell, NY 14219
What: We’ve participated in WNY Earth Science Day for over 6 years as it is an amazing event. Over 500 people attend each year, and this year’s attendance expected to be around 1,000. Executive Director and UB Geology alum, Dr. Phil Stokes, has invited UB Geology to participate again this year. We spend the day talking to parents/students about the programs offered through the department, and running demonstrations pertaining to mineral identification, groundwater flow, seismic waves, and plate tectonics. There are usually plenty of volunteers, so first timers will have a chance to wander around collecting fossils, watch the drill rig extract a core, see the other exhibits, etc.

Volunteers Needed!!! If you are interested please send me an email to Carolyn at carolynr@buffalo.edu
