Overview

The Research in Intelligent Dynamic Energy and Sensing systems (IDEAS) lab, is at the intersection of smart material systems and nonlinear systems. Many of the systems modeled, designed, and fabricated in the lab use intelligent materials including piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, and shape-memory materials . All of the systems are dynamic and we specially use nonlinear dynamics methods to analyze and enhance the performance of the systems. We investigate all applications of smart materials including actuation, energy harvesting, and sensing systems. The problem range from energy harvesting for regular and biomedical applications, Microelectromechanical systems, renewable energy, and wave propagation in meta-structures. The Principal Investigator of the lab is Dr. M. Amin Karami at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
