The UB College of Arts and Sciences houses a significant number of social sciences faculty working on environmental issues from a critical perspective, and it’s clear that it is becoming increasingly important (both intellectually and in order to have a broader social impact) to build cross-disciplinary communities. However, the fact that these faculty are scattered in different departments and the absence of a shared institutional space have limited collaboration both for faculty and students. The mission of this research collaborative is to overcome these obstacles by: (a) creating a joint identity for faculty and their students; (b) establishing a regular calendar of activities to foster discussion and collaboration; and (c) building our capacity to engage across disciplines and to reach beyond the academy. We’re just getting started, so check back soon for more updates!
