Shadowing Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n We have several options for shadowing Psychiatrists in different settings. \u00a0At present we have options on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, CPEP (the Psychiatric ER), and Child Psychiatry outpatient. \u00a0If interested, please email Dr. Sergio Hernandez at sh52@buffalo.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n UB HEALS<\/strong><\/p>\n *At present participation with UB HEALS is on hold due to the pandemic*<\/p>\n PsychSIGN and the Department of Psychiatry are now working with UB HEALS. \u00a0For those of you who don’t know,UB HEALS is a Street Medicine outreach initiative.\u00a0Their\u00a0mission is to increase access to health care among the homeless population of Buffalo, NY by directly improving the overall health of the homeless population through street medicine rounds. \u00a0Since many individuals\u00a0who\u00a0are homeless struggle with mental illness and substance use, we are trying to help these individuals connect with treatment services in the community. \u00a0Psychiatric involvement will consist mainly of helping UB HEALS staff evaluate for possible mental illness and assist with the process of linking with treatment. \u00a0<\/p>\n Summer Externship<\/strong><\/p>\n We offer\u00a02 interested students a clinical rotation experience in Psychiatry the summer between first and second year. The program will consist of rounding on the inpatient service at ECMC, outpatient experiences in different settings, including adult, child, and forensic psychiatry, as well at time in the Psychiatric Emergency Room.
