{"id":124,"date":"2014-04-14T10:53:46","date_gmt":"2014-04-14T14:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gsa.buffalo.edu\/neurogsa\/?p=124"},"modified":"2014-04-14T10:53:46","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T14:53:46","slug":"careers-in-neuroscience-panel-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubwp.buffalo.edu\/neurogsa\/2014\/04\/14\/careers-in-neuroscience-panel-discussion\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Careers in Neuroscience&#8221; Panel Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On December 14th, 2011, the Neuroscience GSA sponsored and hosted a \u201cCareers in Neuroscience\u201d Panel Discussion.\u00a0 The event was co-sponsored by the University at Buffalo Neuroscience Program, the Biological Sciences GSA, the Pharmacology and Toxicology GSA, and the Psychology GSA.\u00a0 A panel of faculty members and post-doctoral fellows discussed the transition from graduate school to a post-graduate position.\u00a0 In attendance were graduate students from a number of departments and programs.\u00a0 Topics included starting up a lab, differences between academia and industry, aspects of funding and support, and other issues facing students as they move beyond graduate school.<\/p>\n<p>The panel itself consisted of faculty and post-doctoral fellows from a variety of departments.\u00a0 The following individuals served as panelists:<\/p>\n<p>Brian Allman, PhD (UB Faculty, Center for Hearing and Deafness)<br \/>\nDerek Daniels, PhD (UB Faculty, Dept of Psychology)<br \/>\nDavid Dietz, PhD (UB Faculty, Dept of Pharmacology and Toxicology)<br \/>\nElizabeth Hogan, PhD (Canisius College Faculty, Dept of Biology)<br \/>\nKathryn Medler, PhD (UB Faculty, Dept of Biological Sciences)<br \/>\nJessica Santollo, PhD (UB Post-Doctoral Fellow, Dept of Psychology)<br \/>\nGail M.
