The case of Lower Fungom<\/a>. PhD dissertation, University of Buea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EN: This work presents a sociolinguistics analysis of the multilingual behaviors in Lower Fungom, a rural area in the North West Region of Cameroon. The main goals of the research are to describe individual multilingualism in Lower Fungom, to account for the sociolinguistic dynamics of multilingualism in this area, and to investigate the social motivations and impact of the aforementioned dynamics. In Lower Fungom, there are as many as 13 different languages spoken, and methods such as sociolinguistic interviews and non-participant observation were used to collect data for this case study. These were then analyzed qualitatively under the theoretical frameworks of frame semantics and accommodation theory. The conclusions of this study were that many people in Lower Fungom use multiple languages on a daily basis. Their language choice is dependent on a variety of factors, including with whom they are talking, who is around them, the topic of discussion, their environment, and their intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FR: Ce travail pr\u00e9sente une analyse sociolinguistique des comportements multilingues dans le Bas Fungom, une zone rurale dans la r\u00e9gion du Nord-ouest du Cameroun. Les objectifs centraux de la recherche d\u00e9crivent le multilinguisme individuel dans le Bas Fungom, expliquent les dynamiques sociolinguistiques dans cette r\u00e9gion, et examinent les motivations sociales et l&#8217; impact de ces dynamiques susmentionn\u00e9es. Dans le Bas Fungom, il y a jusqu\u2019\u00e0 13 langues distinctes parl\u00e9es, et les m\u00e9thodes comme les entretiens sociolinguistiques et l\u2019observation non-participante ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es pour collecter les donn\u00e9es pour ces recherches. Ces donn\u00e9es ont \u00e9t\u00e9 analys\u00e9es sous les cadres th\u00e9oriques de la s\u00e9mantique des cadres et la th\u00e9orie de l&#8217;accommodation. Ces conclusions de l\u2019investigation sont qu\u2019il y a beaucoup de gens dans le Bas Fungom qui utilisent des langues multiples au quotidien.
