PhD dissertation (Sociology and Anthropology)<\/a>. University of Buea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EN: This project explores how the communities in multilingual Lower Fungom, a region in northwest Cameroon, co-exist peacefully despite the tendency for conflict to arise in other multilingual communities in Cameroon. It investigates the micro-ethnographic factors that account for household and community multilingual practices in Lower Fungom. Using data collected from a sociolinguistic survey, as well as focus group discussions, it was found that the rates of multilingualism in the region could be explained socially in terms of blood relations, marriage, perceived proximity and similarity, religion, education, individual relations, and movements. The culture of the community promotes household multilingualism and intergenerational transmission, which contributes to peaceful community and intercommunity existence. In conclusion, the tolerance in the region stems from the household consensus in the use of different languages.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FR: Ce projet explore comment les communaut\u00e9s mulitilingues du Bas Fungom, une r\u00e9gion du Nord-Ouest Cameroun, coexistent pacifiquement malgr\u00e9 la tendance aux conflits dans d&#8217;autres communaut\u00e9s multilingues du Cameroun. Il \u00e9tudie les facteurs micro-ethnographiques qui expliquent les pratiques des m\u00e9nages et des communaut\u00e9s du Bas Fungom. \u00c0 l\u2019aide des donn\u00e9es d\u2019une enqu\u00eate sociolinguistique, ainsi que de discussions de groupe, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 constat\u00e9 que les taux de multilinguisme dans la region pouvaient \u00eatre expliqu\u00e9s socialmentes en termes de liens de sang, de mariage, de proximit\u00e9 et de similarit\u00e9 per\u00e7ues, de religion, d\u2019\u00e9ducation, de relations individuelles, et les mouvements. La culture de la comunaut\u00e9 favorise le multilinguisme familial et la transmission interg\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelle, ce qui contribue \u00e0 une existence communautaire et intercommunautaire apais\u00e9e.
