Wallace Wallin, Speech Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The survey used by Wallin in his study of &#8220;Speech defective children in a large school system.&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey below was distributed to and completed by all of the principals in the St. Louis Public Schools in 1915. It is reproduced from Wallin, 1926, p. 6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">                     Speech Disorders and Defects\nPrincipal reporting       School         Date of Report\n\n\nThe following data should be correct at the time reports\nare made for each grade.\n\nUng. means in ungraded class, Spec., in special class,\nHIS high school freshmen,etc.\n\nGrades: kg. I II III IV V VI VII Ung.\n        Spec. H.S.I 1 H.S.2 H.S.3 H.S.4 Total\n\n\nNo. of boys:\nNo. of girls:\nNo. of left-handed boys:\nNo. of left-handed girls:\n\n1. Census of stutterers. That is, pupils who spasmodically or\n   uncontrolledly repeat the initial sound of words (usually\n   consonants), or who spasmodically repeat syllables or words.\n   Dextro-sinistral: a normally left-handed pupil who has been\n   required to learn to write with the right hand.\n\nName of pupil  Sex  Age  Grade  Years       Stuttering     Age of onset\n                                       Retarded Severe or mild?\n\n(cont.)\n\nAscribed cause  Left handed now?  Formerly left handed? Dextrosinistral?\n\n2. Census of lispers.  That is, pupils who are unable to pronounce\n   or pronounce with difficulty certain letters of combination of\n   letters (such as c, l, r. s, sh, ch, th) or who tend to drop\n   or slur over difficult sounds, or who substitute one sound for\n   another (e.g., d for g, dood instead of good, s for z).\n\nName of pupil  Sex   Age  Grade  Years     Lisping    Age of onset\n                                Retarded Severe or mild?\n\n(cont.)\n\nAscribed cause  Left handed now?
