He studied medicine in Vienna and obtained a doctorate in 1875. He was an assistant to the neurologist Theodor Hermann Meynert (1833-1892) and worked in the same research unit as Karl Wernicke. His work on brain localization as it pertained to speech disturbance led to his international reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1878 Pick was appointed physician in the department of psychiatry and neurology at the University of Prague. In 1880 he became the director of a new mental hospital and six years later he was appointed professor of psychiatry and head of a psychiatric clinic in Prague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pick produced over 350 publications, many of them on apraxia and agrammatism.
