The machine was able to produce connected speech. He published a detailed description of his device and experience with it in a 1791 volume&nbsp;<em>Mechanismus der menschlichen sprache<\/em>. The first few chapters of his book were devoted to the existing literature on speech production and the phonological system of different languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acsu.buffalo.edu\/~duchan\/new_history\/enlightenment\/images_enlightenment\/von_kemplen_synthesizer.jpg\" alt=\"von Kemplen's speech synthesizer\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Von Kempelen hoped that his machine might be used to help cure \u201csome of those persons who have defective pronunciation\u201d (MacNamee, 1984, p. 417).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Writings about Wolfgang von Kempelen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dudley, Homer and Tarnoczy T.H.
