A presenter on the BBC\u2019s \u201cOur Changing Planet\u201d series, Al-Shamahi was also the presenter and associate producer for BBC\u2019s two science series \u201cNeanderthals: Meet Your Ancestors\u201d and \u201cHorizon: Body Clock.\u201d She also hosted a National Geographic show \u201cViking Warrior Women\u201d where\u2014during filming\u2014she discovered what might be the first evidence of a battle injury on a female Viking warrior.<\/p>\n<p>Her debut book, \u201cThe Handshake\u201d (2021), was recognized as a Times (UK) and Sunday Times (UK) Book of the Year.
