This show honors the accomplishments of black authors and invites visitors to engage in more in-depth conversations on the representation of black identity in the archive, both in terms of its material and immaterial presence as well as its absence. What demands do we impose on the historical artifacts that contain or suppress black subjectivity? What are our expectations regarding the form or legibility of these objects? What predictions can be made regarding the intergenerational processes that will continue to shape the presence of black writers in future literary lifecycles?
