SUMMARY:February Board of Directors Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The February 3rd Board of Directors meeting will be held online via Zoom.  GSA Board of Directors meetings are open to the public\, but only designated representatives from Departmental and International clubs may vote. Sign-in begins at 6:00pm so that the meeting can begin promptly at 6:30pm. Once the meeting begins no one else will be admitted for attendance purposes. \nPLEASE NOTE: Every club will need to email Stephanie at slfrank@buffalo.edu no later than 12:00pm on Wednesday\, February 3rd with who will be attending the meeting on the club’s behalf so that eligible representatives can be verified in advance.  Once representatives are verified they will be sent the Zoom meeting link and password directly\, along with some instructions on how the meeting will be managed\, in order to be able to participate and vote.  Only previously verified representatives will be admitted to participate in the Zoom meeting. \nFor attendance purposes each Special Interest Club may have one representative participate directly in the Zoom meeting\, but they will not have voting privileges.  Additional special requests for guests and/or speakers to be admitted may be sent to gsa-feedback@buffalo.edu. \nThe meeting will also be live streamed via GSA’s Facebook Page for anyone else that is interested in watching the meeting without voting privileges or an official attendance record\, as meetings are open to the public.

COMMEMORATION EVENT \nPresented in part by:\n\n\n\n\nFree tickets available for graduate students (TBA) through the UB Ticket Office.  1 per UB ID. \nPublic Ticket Information \nThurs.\, Feb. 11\, 2027 at 7:00 p.m.\nCenter for the Arts\nUB North Campus \n\nMore About Moogega Cooper\n\n\nA real life “Guardian of the Galaxy\,” Moogega “Moo” Cooper holds the awesome responsibility of keeping the red planet safe from any of the Earth’s contaminants.  Cooper is the planetary protection lead of the famed NASA 2020 Mars mission—with a highly viewed landing on February 18\, 2021.  Her work with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is integral to the ongoing mission to discern whether Mars could be habitable for humans and that we don’t harm what’s already there—a job she has been working up to for most of her life. \nAfter graduating from high school at 16\, Cooper studied physics as an undergraduate\, received a master’s degree and went on to earn her PhD in mechanical engineering at 24 years old with a dissertation on spacecraft materials. \nCooper is passionate about empowering organizations and others to achieve their dreams and overcome obstacles that she articulately conveys through her life story and love of her work. \nA role model for women in science and technology\, she is also passionate about introducing more people to the wonders of the STEAM world\, including by talking about her work to boys and girls from underrepresented communities and appearing on shows like “Because Space” and “Bill Nye Saves the World.” \nCooper is a recipient of several awards\, including the NASA Early Career Public Achievement Medal\, the Charles Elachi Award for Exceptional Early Career Achievement and JPL Voyager Awards for Technical Leadership.
