A lifelong artist\, Spacey began his acting career in Jr. High School and High School drama classes. He later attended the Juilliard School of Drama and began his professional career on the New York stage\, which eventually propelled his career into film. \nSpacey has won Academy Awards for his performances in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty\,” which also garnered him a BAFTA Award. Additionally\, he has been nominated for eight Golden Globe Awards. Spacey’s illustrious film credits include “Swimming with Sharks\,” “Se7en\,” “LA Confidential\,” “Glengarry Glen Ross\,” “The Negotiator\,” “K-Pax\,” “The Shipping News\,” “Superman Returns\,” “Beyond the Sea\,” “Shrink\,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats\,” “Horrible Bosses” and “Margin Call.” \nSpacey’s production company Trigger Street Productions\, which he runs with his producing partner Dana Brunetti\, has produced multiple award-winning movies for film and television. Their films include “The Social Network\,” which won a Golden Globe for Best Picture and received multiple Academy Award nominations. They also produced the Sony Picture’s film\, “21\,” and the independent features “The United States of Leland\,” “The Big Kahuna” and “Fanboys.” Trigger Street’s most recent film was “Captain Phillips\,” which starred Tom Hanks and was released in October 2013. \n\n\nFor television\, Trigger Street produced two films for HBO\, “Recount” and “Bernard & Doris\,” both of which garnered double-digit Emmy Award nominations and a Best Film of the Year Emmy for “Recount.” \nFrom 2004 thru May 2015\, Spacey served as the Artistic Director of The Old Vic Theatre Company in London. He directed its inaugural production “Cloaca\,” before appearing in “National Anthems\,” “The Philadelphia Story\,” “Richard II\,” “A Moon for the Misbegotten\,” which subsequently transferred to Broadway\, “Speed-the-Plow” with Jeff Goldblum\, and “Inherit The Wind.” Spacey most recently toured all over the world with the Sam Mendes production of “Richard III\,” which was part of the third year of the Bridge Project between the Old Vic and BAM. Most recently\, Spacey was awarded the prestigious Laurence Olivier Special Award for his incredible contribution to British theatre during his tenure as Artistic Director. \nSpacey currently serves as executive producer and stars as ‘Francis Underwood\,’ the beguiling\, charismatic and ruthless President\, in the Netflix original series “House of Cards.” For this work\, he received the two Golden Globe nominations\, including one win\, and two Emmy nominations for Best Actor. The series is produced by Donen/Fincher/Roth and Trigger Street Productions\, in association with Media Rights Capital\, and has received 20 Emmy Awards nominations; winning four of those awards. \nIn 2014\, Spacey was named one of Forbes magazine’s Most Powerful Celebrities\, and was the first online-only television star to make the list. \n\n\nFor more information\, please visit: \n\nhttps://www.kevinspacey.com/ \n\nLecture Sponsor:\n Fre

SUMMARY:Pharmaceutical Sciences Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Pharmaceutical Sciences Symposium\nDate: May 3\, 2016\nCost: Free\nVenue: Kapoor Hall\, Buffalo NY\nOrganizer: Pharmaceutical Sciences GSA \nThe “12th Annual Pharmaceutical Sciences Distinguished Alumni Symposium” is an information exchange exercise wherein students will discuss their research with a prominent UB Pharmaceutical Sciences alumnus\, who will also present a keynote speech. This year we have chosen to recognized Dr. Brian Booth as our distinguished alumni of 2016. Dr. Booth was a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Ho-Leung Fung’s lab and is currently deputy director at the US Food and Drug Administration\, FDA (Division of Clinical Pharmacology V FDA\OTS\OCP) in Washington D.C. It is with great honor and privilege to invite Dr. Booth back to meet with the students and department to share his experiences and success from the FDA. Current students will have the opportunity to meet individually and in groups with Dr. Booth to discuss research\, network\, and learn more about opportunities in FDA. Also\, a formal Professional Development luncheon will be hosted by Dr. Booth where graduate students will have the opportunity to develop alumni relationships and to inquire about his experiences in FDA. The keynote speech will be of interest to graduate students from a variety of discipline including\, but not limited to\, Biological Sciences\, Pharmacy\, RPCI\, Pharmacology/Toxicology\, Chemistry\, and Chemical Engineering. We firmly believe that affording the graduate students the opportunity to meet and interact with a distinguished scholar will enhance their graduate student experience and inspire them to strive for similar success. \nEvent Sponsors: Pharmaceutical Sciences GSA\, UB-AAPS Student Chapter\, UB Pharmaceutical Science Department\, Chemical and Biological Engineering GSA\, Pharmacology and Toxicology GSA and UB GSA.
