SUMMARY:University Wide Recognition Deadline
DESCRIPTION:2024-2025 University-wide recognition process (done every year on UBLinked) will open for GSA-recognized clubs on Thursday\, August 1\, 2024\, at 12:01 a.m. Your recognizing agent has set your club’s re-registration period to close on Tuesday\, October 15\, 2024\, at 11:59 p.m. \nThis process provides clubs and organizations with more support and access to institutional resources. The formal policy is found here and outlines its purpose\, benefits of recognition\, eligibility requirements\, responsibilities of organizations\, and non-discriminatory practices. This document provides evidence that university-wide recognition is proven through an up-to-date and university approved UBLinked page. \nFailure to complete the registration form by the deadline will result in a complete loss of the following for the student organization: \n\nAccess to the University at Buffalo name and logo\nAccess to funding from the Mandatory Student Activity Fee if recognized by a student government\nAbility to reserve/rent space on campus for events and meetings\nAccess to vendor and lobby tables in the Student Union\nPrivilege to conduct fundraising activities on campus\nFinancial services through a University Fiscal Agent\nEligibility to participate in all membership recruitment opportunities\nAccess to the organization’s UBLinked page\n\nThe loss of benefits will last until the organization re-registers during the following re-registration window\, which will open on August 1\, 2025. \nBe sure to maintain current information on UBLinked \n\nMaintain current contact information of all officers\, advisors\, and liaisons.\nMaintain a current roster of active members.\nMaintain a current copy of your organization’s constitution and by-laws\, including those organizations external to the University with which the group may be affiliated.\n\nMore information on information related to clubs and organizations here at UB and our recognition process\, can be found at the website below: \nInformation for Clubs and Organizations \nREGISTRATION PROCESS \n\nWhen you log on to your group’s UBLinked page you will be prompted to re-register your organization.\n\nPlease keep in mind that only executive board members or primary contacts can re-register an organization. Please contact your executive board if you are not listed in an executive board position on UBLinked. E-Board members will be able to update the roster. \nIf your organization has not elected a new executive board\, you must still re-register your organization before the deadline of October 15\, 2024. If you will be holding your organization elections after August 1\, 2024\, but before October 15\, 2024\, you will have to wait to re-register your organization until the next executive board is elected. Please be sure to log back in to UBLinked to update the executive board once elections are over. \n\nFrom there it will provide you with a list of organizations you manage. Click the organization you would like to re-register. This will take you to a new page that will offer a button that reads “Re-Register An Organization.” Click that button to continue.\nYou will then be prompted to update your club/organizations general information. This includes the following:\n\n\nOrganization Description\nWebsite Info\nContact Information (Please do not put your personal information)\n\n\nThe next step relates to the Organization Roster. You will be asked to update executive board member positions. Select the position\, and then list the person’s name and e-mail in their respective areas. You will not be able to move on until all the required positions are filled. You must click add in between the entry of each position.\n\nThe only mandatory position for every student organization is the Events Coordinator. This can be one or multiple individuals. The Events Coordinator will serve as the liaison between the organization and the university regarding events. The person/people that hold this position will be the only individuals that can create events and reserve space using UBLinked. \n\nYou will then review the roster. We highly recommend removing members who have left or graduated or adding any new members that have expressed interest in joining. In some cases\, no changes will need to be made.\nNext\, upload the most recent version of your organization constitution or bylaws. The constitution you upload must be the most recent constitution approved by your recognizing agent. This is where many student organizations get stuck. Please be sure this is accurate. You can always reach out to the GSA before you re-register to ensure you are using the approved constitution the GSA has on file.\nNext upload a profile picture that accurately depicts your organization. This can be of students\, or an organization logo.\nFinally\, you’ll complete the additional information. This includes:\n\n\nOfficial Name\nPrimary Contact for Organization (typically an executive board member)\nPrimary Contact’s email address\nThe Organization’s Recognizing Agent (GSA)

SUMMARY:Distinguished Speaker Series presents Jon Meacham
DESCRIPTION:Jon Meacham\n\n\nPresidential Historian | Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author \n\n\n\n\nFree tickets available for graduate students starting Monday\, September 16th through the UB Ticket Office.  1 per UB ID.\n\nPublic Ticket Information\n  \nWed.\, Oct. 16\, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.\nCenter for the Arts\nUB North Campus \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore About Jon Meacham\n\n\nPresidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham is one of America’s most prominent public intellectuals. A contributor to TIME\, Meacham is a highly sought-after commentator\, regularly appearing on MSNBC\, CNN and other news outlets. A skilled orator with a depth of knowledge about politics\, religion and current affairs\, Meacham has the unique ability to bring history to life and offer historical context to current events and issues impacting our daily lives—whether we realize it or not—to audiences of all backgrounds and levels of understanding. \nHe served as Newsweek’s managing editor from 1998 to 2006 and as editor from 2006 to 2010. \nMeacham released two podcasts with the History Channel: “Hope Through History” and “It Was Said.” Narrated and written by Meacham\, season two of the critically acclaimed “Hope Through History” podcast explores some of the most historic and trying times in American History\, how the nation dealt with the impact of these moments\, and how we came through these moments a more unified nation. “It Was Said\,” tells the stories of those crucial words\, taking listeners back to inflection points ranging from the McCarthy era to our present time through the real-time rhetoric that shaped and suffused America as the country struggled through storm and strife. “It Was Said” captures the nation we’ve been\, and points ahead to the nation we hope to become. \nMeacham is the author of multiple New York Times bestsellers including\, “Songs of America\,” which is a celebration of the music that helped shape a nation. Co-written by musician Tim McGraw\, “Songs of America” was praised as “a glorious celebration of our diversity” by Quincy Jones and an “unusually well-written and moving story” by Ken Burns. Another #1 New York Times bestseller\, “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels\,”examines the present moment in American politics and life by looking back at critical times in U.S. history when hope overcame division and fear. He released “His Truth Is Marching On: John Lewis and the Power of Hope”—an intimate and revealing portrait of civil rights icon and longtime U.S. congressman John Lewis that quickly gained bestseller status. \nMeacham’s presidential biography of George H. W. Bush\, “Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush\,” debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list. According to the Times\, “‘Destiny and Power’ reflects the qualities of both subject and biographer: judicious\, balanced\, deliberative\, with a deep appreciation of history and the personalities who shape it.” He is a co-author of “Impeachment: An American History\,” which reveals the complicated motives behind the three impeachments in U.S. history. A #1 New York Times bestseller\, “Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power” was hailed as “masterful and intimate” by Fortune magazine. Meacham’s other national bestsellers include “Franklin and Winston\,” “American Gospel\,” and “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House\,” which won a Pulitzer Prize. \nMeacham is a frequent guest on “Morning Joe;” “Real Time with Bill Maher;” “The 11th Hour\,” and was featured in Ken Burns’ documentary series “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.” FOX News produced an hour-long special about Meacham’s “Destiny and Power.” \nNamed a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum\, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a fellow of the Society of American Historians. Meacham is a distinguished visiting professor at Vanderbilt University where he holds the Rogers Chair in the American Presidency. His latest New York Times bestseller\, “And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle\,” was published in October 2022.

Her New York Times bestselling memoir\, “The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity\, and My Fight Against the Islamic State\,” is a harrowing account of the genocide against the Yazidi ethno-religious minority in Iraq and Murad’s imprisonment by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS). \nMuch of Murad’s advocacy work is focused on meeting with global leaders to raise awareness of the genocide against the Yazidi people and the systemic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. \nIn 2016\, Murad became the first UN Office of Drugs and Crime Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking. That year\, she was also awarded the Council of Europe Václav Havel Award for Human Rights and Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. In 2018\, she won the Nobel Peace Prize with Dr. Denis Mukwege. Together\, they founded the Global Survivors Fund. In 2019\, Murad was appointed as a UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate. \nIn her capacity as a member of France’s Gender Advisory Council\, Murad advocated G7 member states to adopt legislation that protects and promotes women’s rights. Murad worked with the German Mission to the United Nations to pass UN Security Council Resolution 2467\, which expands the UN’s commitments to end sexual violence in conflict. Murad was also a driving force behind the drafting and passing of UN Security Council Resolution 2379\, which established the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).
