SUMMARY:Distinguished Speaker Series presents Andrew Ross Sorkin
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Ross Sorkin\n\n\nAward-winning & Bestselling Author | Journalist \n\n\n“Inside the Story of 1929 – Writing Through the Wreckage of the American Dream” \nFree tickets available for graduate students (TBA) through the UB Ticket Office.  1 per UB ID. \nPublic Ticket Information \n\nFri.\, Oct. 2\, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.\nCenter for the Arts\nUB North Campus \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore About Andrew Ross Sorkin\n\n\nAndrew Ross Sorkin is an award-winning journalist for The New York Times and a co-anchor of “Squawk Box\,” CNBC’s signature morning program. He is also the founder and editor-at-large of DealBook\, an online daily financial report published by The New York Times that he started in 2001.\n‍\nHe is the author of “1929: The Inside Story of the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History–and How It Shattered a Nation\,” the instant New York Times bestseller praised as a “vivid and forensic account . . . a real eye-opener” (Financial Times). With unparalleled access to historical records and newly uncovered documents\, Sorkin’s book takes readers inside the chaos of the crash\, behind the scenes of a raging battle between Wall Street and Washington and the larger-than-life characters whose ambition and naivete in an endless boom led to disaster. The dizzying highs and brutal lows of this era eerily mirror today’s world—where markets soar\, political tensions mount\, and the fight over financial influence plays out once again. The Wall Street Journal calls it “one of the best narrative histories [we’ve] read.” It was named a Best Book of 2025 by TIME\, The Economist\, The Financial Times and Bloomberg. \nHailed as a landmark book\, “Too Big to Fail: How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System–and Themselves\,” is considered the definitive account of the 2008 financial crisis. It won the 2010 Gerald Loeb Award for Best Business Book\, and was shortlisted for the 2010 Samuel Johnson Prize and the 2010 Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award. The book spent more than six months on the New York Times bestseller list in hardcover and paperback and was adapted as a movie for HBO Films in 2011. Sorkin was a co-producer of the film\, which was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards. \nSorkin is also co-creator of the drama series “Billions” on Showtime starring Paul Giamatti and Damien Lewis. \nSorkin is one the preeminent interviewers in the nation\, known for his incisive\, nuanced long-form conversations with the biggest newsmakers in the world\, from Elon Musk to LeBron James to Kim Kardashian and Hillary Clinton. In 2022\, he won the Emmy award for Outstanding Live Interview for his DealBook Summit 2021 conversation with Adam Neumann\, the WeWork co-founder’s first public interview after the company’s collapse. \nOver the years\, Sorkin has broken news of many major mergers and acquisitions in the pages of The Times and has been at the forefront of Wall Street news. He reported extensively on the financial crisis of 2008\, its aftermath on Wall Street and the government bailout of major investment banks\, with coverage including the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers\, and the A.I.G. bailout. He has broken news of deals including Chase’s acquisition of J.P. Morgan and Hewlett-Packard’s acquisition of Compaq. He also led The Times’s coverage of Vodafone’s $183 billion hostile bid for Mannesmann\, resulting in the world’s largest takeover ever. \nAs a leading voice about Wall Street and corporate America\, Sorkin is a frequent guest on national television and radio programs\, as well as a lecturer at universities across the country. He has appeared on NBC’s “The Today Show\,” PBS’s “NewsHour\,” HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher\,” NPR’s “Talk of the Nation\,” and many others. \nHe won a Gerald Loeb Award in 2004 for breaking the news of I.B.M.’s historic sale of its PC business to Lenovo. He was also a finalist in the commentary category for his DealBook column\, and won a Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for breaking news in 2005 and again in 2006. In 2007\, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader. He is co-chair of The New York Public Library’s Business Leadership Council and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.\n‍\nSorkin began writing for The New York Times in 1995 under unusual circumstances: he hadn’t yet graduated from high school. He is a graduate of Cornell University. For more information\, visit https://www.andrewrosssorkin.com.

SUMMARY:University Wide Recognition Deadline
DESCRIPTION:2026-2027 University-wide recognition process (done every year on UBLinked) will open for GSA-recognized clubs on Friday\, August 14\, 2026\, at 12:01 a.m. Your recognizing agent has set your club’s re-registration period to close on Thurssday\, October 15\, 2026\, at 11:59 p.m. \nThis process provides clubs and organizations with more support and access to institutional resources. The formal policy is found here and outlines its purpose\, benefits of recognition\, eligibility requirements\, responsibilities of organizations\, and non-discriminatory practices. This document provides evidence that university-wide recognition is proven through an up-to-date and university approved UBLinked page. \nFailure to complete the registration form by the deadline will result in a complete loss of the following for the student organization: \n\nAccess to the University at Buffalo name and logo\nAccess to funding from the Mandatory Student Activity Fee if recognized by a student government\nAbility to reserve/rent space on campus for events and meetings\nAccess to vendor and lobby tables in the Student Union\nPrivilege to conduct fundraising activities on campus\nFinancial services through a University Fiscal Agent\nEligibility to participate in all membership recruitment opportunities\nAccess to the organization’s UBLinked page\n\nThe loss of benefits will last until the organization re-registers during the following re-registration window\, which will open on August 14\, 2026. \nBe sure to maintain current information on UBLinked \n\nMaintain current contact information of all officers\, advisors\, and liaisons.\nMaintain a current roster of active members.\nMaintain a current copy of your organization’s constitution and by-laws\, including those organizations external to the University with which the group may be affiliated.\n\nMore information on information related to clubs and organizations here at UB and our recognition process\, can be found at the website below: \nInformation for Clubs and Organizations \nREGISTRATION PROCESS \n\nWhen you log on to your group’s UBLinked page you will be prompted to re-register your organization.\n\nPlease keep in mind that only executive board members or primary contacts can re-register an organization. Please contact your executive board if you are not listed in an executive board position on UBLinked. E-Board members will be able to update the roster. \nIf your organization has not elected a new executive board\, you must still re-register your organization before the deadline of October 15\, 2025. If you will be holding your organization elections after August 1\, 2025\, but before October 15\, 2025\, you will have to wait to re-register your organization until the next executive board is elected. Please be sure to log back in to UBLinked to update the executive board once elections are over. \n\nFrom there it will provide you with a list of organizations you manage. Click the organization you would like to re-register. This will take you to a new page that will offer a button that reads “Re-Register An Organization.” Click that button to continue.\nYou will then be prompted to update your club/organizations general information. This includes the following:\n\n\nOrganization Description\nWebsite Info\nContact Information (Please do not put your personal information)\n\n\nThe next step relates to the Organization Roster. You will be asked to update executive board member positions. Select the position\, and then list the person’s name and e-mail in their respective areas. You will not be able to move on until all the required positions are filled. You must click add in between the entry of each position.\n\nThe only mandatory position for every student organization is the Events Coordinator. This can be one or multiple individuals. The Events Coordinator will serve as the liaison between the organization and the university regarding events. The person/people that hold this position will be the only individuals that can create events and reserve space using UBLinked. \n\nYou will then review the roster. We highly recommend removing members who have left or graduated or adding any new members that have expressed interest in joining. In some cases\, no changes will need to be made.\nNext upload a profile picture that accurately depicts your organization. This can be of students\, or an organization logo.\nFinally\, you’ll complete the additional information. This includes:\n\n\nOfficial Name\nPrimary Contact for Organization (typically an executive board member)\nPrimary Contact’s email address\nThe Organization’s Recognizing Agent (GSA)
