SUMMARY:Pharmaceutical Sciences Distinguished Alumni Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The 14th Annual Pharmaceutical Sciences Distinguished Alumni Symposium is an all-day event in which graduate students have the opportunity to meet with a prominent alumna/alumnus from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.  This year we are pleased to announce Dr. Tristan Maurer as the distinguished alumnus. \nDr. Maurer is a Senior Director of Systems Modeling & Simulation Group at Pfizer and he is one of the leading experts in his field\, with 18 years of experience in industry and more than 50 scientific publications covering a range of topics in drug discovery and development. During his time at Pfizer\, Dr. Maurer has had an opportunity to not only perform innovative research\, but also to participate in world-wide collaborative programs with multidisciplinary teams\, as well as carry on mentorship responsibilities. \nDuring the symposium\, graduate students will be invited to engage in a career development lunch with the keynote speaker\, as well as have the opportunity to meet Dr. Maurer one-on-one to discuss research\, network\, and learn about opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. \nThe day-long event will conclude with a keynote speech from Dr. Maurer.  The keynote speech will be of interest to a variety of disciplines including\, but not limited to\, Biological Sciences\, Pharmacy\, RPCI\, Pharmacology and Toxicology\, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.  We firmly believe that providing graduate students with the opportunity to meet distinguished alumni will enhance their graduate student experience and inspire them to strive for similar success.

SUMMARY:Chemistry's Graduate Student Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The 36th Graduate Student Symposium (GSS) is an event that is organized entirely by graduate students from the Department of Chemistry.  The GSS annually hosts ~150 graduate students from over a dozen institutions across the northeastern United States and southern Ontario.  We have students participating from other departments as well.  In the past we have had presenters from physics\, chemical engineering\, environmental engineering\, and biomedical sciences.  This is an invaluable event for many graduate students who can participate by presenting a poster at the poster session and/or give a 15-20 minute talk about their research in semi-formal setting.  There is no registration fee\, and meals are provided for all three days of the symposium.  Each day will feature a different keynote speaking\, including: Prof. Malika Jeffries-EL from Boston University\, Prof. Andy Borovik from the University of California\, Irvine\, and Prof. Heather Desaire from the University of Kansas.
