SUMMARY:Chemical & Biological Engineering Research Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Chemical and Biological Engineering Department’s annual research symposium is an event where the department’s graduate students present a poster on their current research and two students\, in the final year of their dissertation\, give an oral presentation. The event’s keynote address is given each year by a distinguished guest lecturer. This year’s guest speaker will be: Mehmet Toner\, the Helen Andrus Benedict Professor of Biomedical Engineering\, Harvard Medical School and Founding Co-Director of the Institute for Bioengineering and Biotechnology\, a division of Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. \nThe department is also hosting an alumni mixer/social after the symposium to give current students a chance to discuss research interests and careers with alumni. We are expecting around 300 attendees at the event. There is significant student involvement in the event planning. Specifically\, the student poster competition is run by the CBE-GSA officers\, who instruct the judges\, manage the viewing times\, review the scores\, and award the winners. The officers are also involved with the symposium preparatory work and share a role in advertising. \nSponsored by the Graduate Student Association
