SUMMARY:Media Study GSA ~ Philo-Fiction: On Integrative Objects Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Times: Monday\, April 10 6:30pm – 8:30pm (keynote speakers); Tuesday\, April 11\, workshop lead by Anne-Francoise Schmid/grad symposium presentations from 10:00am – 5:00pm; Wednesday\, April 12\, grad student participants’ roundtable and wrap up 12:00 – 6:00pm\, research exhibits of participants’ work on display in Department of Media Study (room 271) from April 14-27 \nWe invite graduate students to participate in a practice-based research/workshop symposium ‘Philo-Fiction: On Integrative Objects’ led by philosopher Anne-Francoise Schmid on Tuesday\, April 11.  This all-day event is connected to a special edition of the PLASMA speaker series at the Department of Media Study\, with world renown philosophers Francois Laruelle and Anne-Francoise Schmid.  Laruelle and Schmid will both give talks on April 10th at 6:30pm in the Department of Media Study as an opening to our practice-research symposium and collaborative workshop. \nPhilo-Fiction: On Integrative Objects is an interdisciplinary event that will explore and question the status of our knowledge\, looking across knowledges that are philosophical\, scientific and/or artistic.  The event brings together Schmid’s work on ‘Integrative Objects’ as an emerging method for research and practice\, and allows for grad students to experiment with the method in a collaborative setting.  Schmid will guide us in thinking through the method of integrative objects\, with a focus on how fiction can be used as an operator mobilizes knowledge.  This event is open for all grad students to apply but will be of interest to those working in art and artistic research\, epistemology\, performance studies\, design/speculative design\, critical theory\, continental philosophy\, science studies\, and for those who work with interdisciplinary methods or have interest in practice-based methods of research.  Participants will also be part of the subsequent exhibition ‘On Integrative Objects’ that will showcase the work of participants presented and created during the workshop/symposium at the Department of Media Study SUNY Buffalo from April 14-27 in the Center for the Arts.
