SUMMARY:26th Annual Milton Plesur Graduate History Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Graduate History Association of the University at Buffalo will host its 26th Annual Conference with the theme “Changing Urban Landscapes: Shifts in Communities\, Spaces and Identity.” \nThis year\, we have invited historian Mauricio Tenorio\, a professor from the University of Chicago\, to give the keynote address. Specializing in the cultural and social history of Mexican urbanism\, particularly of Mexico City\, Dr. Tenorio will provide a talk entitled “History and the Megalopolis.” His recent book Latin America: The Allure and Power of an Idea will be published next month. \nWe are also excited to highlight the diversity of Buffalo by offering food from the Westside Bazaar\, a small business incubator supporting immigrant\, refugee\, and low-income entrepreneurs on their path to becoming successful business owners. \nTo register\, please e-mail GHAconference2017@buffalo.edu by March 10. \nPreliminary Schedule Below. SUMMARY:CSEE GSA ~ Symposium on Resilient and Sustainable Civil Structures and Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:I am glad to announce the short symposium on “Resilient and Sustainable Civil Structures and Infrastructures” will be held on March 31st\, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This symposium allows graduate students to present their related research (in a poster format) to their peers and CSEE departmental faculty and other department members who wish to attend. The poster competition will occur between 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM followed by the keynote talk given by Dr. Yongguang Huang\, an invited speaker from Northwestern University\, between 1:00 – 2:00 PM. \nThe posters will be judged by a panel of CSEE faculty from all of the disciplines and our guest judge Professor Yongguang Huang. The criteria for selecting the winning posters will be: (i) the originality of the research\, (ii) the impact on the field and (iii) organization\, quality\, and clarity of presentation. \nThe basic requirements for participating are: \n\n\nAn abstract (up to 250-300 words) should be submitted through the sign-up sheet.  Abstracts are due on Monday\, March 20th\, 2017 by 11:59 pm (you will be notified about the status of your abstract by March 23rd).\nThe poster recommended size is limited to 40” x 32”.\nPosters should have a heading that includes the poster title\, author(s) and engineering department.\n\n\nThe competition will have a 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place winner with $250\, $150 and $50 prizes\, respectively. \nPlease let me know if you have any questions. \nThe link to the sign-up sheet: \nhttps://goo.gl/forms/ttjkcshhnz1qi1yD2 \nThe agenda for the events on Friday is attached here. In Summary\, we will have Breakfast from 9 to 10 am ( 1 hour sooner than the usual Coffee Break) in Ketter 101. After that\, the poster competition will take place from 10 am to 12 pm followed by lunch and winners announcement at the Davis Atrium. The speech will be delivered by Prof Yonggang Huang at 12:45 pm in NSC 216. \nEvery vote counts\, so try to make it to Davis\, learn about the research being conducted in our department\, and grade the posters if you would like to.
