About the Program<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

ExploreCSR at UB is a three-day virtual workshop that introduces undergraduates to basic connectionist models and signal processing in order to better understand how these techniques can be used in scientific studies and to solve real-world problems. The workshop is designed to encourage underrepresented groups to explore research and graduate opportunities in computing through mentorship and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is organized by UB\u2019s Center for Cognitive Science<\/a> and sponsored through Google\u2019s ExploreCSR<\/a> grant. Workshop attendees will receive a stipend and a potentially paid trip to a scientific conference. There is no cost to attend, however space is limited and students will need to submit an online application form before being notified of whether they have been selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When: <\/strong>April 16 – April 18, 2021, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM (US Eastern Time Zone)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshop Overview<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Students will connect with graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty mentors to learn how they have used computational approaches in their own careers. Students will also be able to meet and discuss future career and research goals, as well as get connected to information regarding graduate programs, funding, scientific organizations, and labs based on their individual interests.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Each day will consist of tutorials and testimonials on how computational methods can be used in scientific research, followed by hands-on practice in small groups. Each group will work together with a mentor to explore computational strategies to analyzing data and to apply what they have learned to an environmentally-focused research question.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
