Mind to Quit

Smokers are needed for a new research study for people with Mental Illness who want to quit.

The Mind to Quit Project is a multi-site trial being conducted at Duke University and SUNY at Buffalo. The Principal Investigators are Dr. Roger Villardaga (Duke) and Dr. Rebecca Ashare (UB).

The goal of the Mind to Quit project is to test whether a smoking cessation app developed specifically for people with Serious Mental Illness improves quit rates compared to brief smoking cessation advice. Both conditions will receive smoking cessation medication (i.e., Nicotine Patches and Gum).

Quitting smoking has important health benefits for people with Serious Mental Illness many of whom are daily smokers. Smartphone apps could provide a viable platform to deliver smoking cessation interventions in this population.
