Marianthi Markatou, Ph.D.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Marianthi Markatou is SUNY Distinguished Professor, Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health and Health Professions and the Principal Investigator of the award, entitled \u201cDeveloping Methods for Clustering Longitudinal Mixed-Type Data for Comparative Effectiveness Research\u201d. Her research interests are both, disciplinary and interdisciplinary and include contributions in robustness, the study of statistical distances, mixture models, classification and clustering with emphasis on mixed-type measurement scale data. She has made influential contributions to the area of safety of medical products, pharmacoepidemiology and biomedical informatics. These areas are of continuous interest. Her research has been continuously funded by NSF, NIH and other foundations since 1990.

Dr. Markatou is an Elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. Additionally , she was awarded two Fullbright Fellowships (2017, 2019) and a Senior Researcher of the Year award (2019) from School of Public Health and Health Professions, University at Buffalo.

From 2000-2002 Dr. Markatou was a Program Director of Statistics, NSF and served as a Scientific Advisor to the Office of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Food and Drug Administration (2009-2010). From 2014-2020 Dr. Markatou was a permanent (federally appointed) member on the Biostatistical Methods and Research Design (BMRD) study section, NIH. She has been a keynote and invited speaker in many international and national conferences, and was a thematic leader of \u201cEmerging Applications\u201d of the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded report \u201cStatistics at a Crossroads: Who is for the Challenge?\u201d Currently, she is Editor in-Chief for International Statistical Review, the flagship journal of the International Statistical Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
