{"id":2,"date":"2025-12-05T21:15:03","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T21:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ubwp.buffalo.edu\/clear-linguistics\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-09-11T14:21:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T18:21:07","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ubwp.buffalo.edu\/clear-linguistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to CLEAR"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>CLEAR (Contact Linguistics: Exploration, Analysis and Research)<\/strong> is an interdisciplinary research group at the University at Buffalo dedicated to exploring the effects of contact between languages and linguistic communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formerly known as the <strong>UB Creolist Reading Group<\/strong>, CLEAR builds on the group\u2019s longstanding interest in creole and pidgin languages while expanding its focus to include bilingualism, multilingualism, language change, cognition, contact varieties, and other linguistic phenomena shaped by language contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you are a student, faculty member, or researcher interested in how languages influence and transform one another, CLEAR offers a collaborative space to present research, discuss scholarship, and connect with an interdisciplinary community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-text-subtitle\">What we explore:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CLEAR welcomes research from linguistics and related disciplines, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The emergence and development of creole and pidgin languages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bilingualism and multilingualism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cognitive and psychological dimensions of language contact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact-induced language change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact varieties and non-standard dialects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The structural, social, cultural, and historical consequences of language contact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experimental and interdisciplinary approaches to contact linguistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does it work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CLEAR brings together students, faculty members, guest scholars, and external researchers from UB and beyond. Our activities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Research presentations<\/strong>&nbsp;by students, faculty and guest scholars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collaborative discussions<\/strong>&nbsp;on key readings and emerging topics in the field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants include UB faculty and graduate students, advanced undergraduates and external researchers with an interest in creole and pidgin languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Join the conversation!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Curious about how languages are born and transformed?
