{"id":62,"date":"2020-04-21T19:42:06","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T19:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wpdev.acsu.buffalo.edu\/bme-avml\/?page_id=62"},"modified":"2026-01-21T20:08:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:08:15","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ubwp.buffalo.edu\/bme-avml\/","title":{"rendered":"HOME"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-page\" data-elementor-id=\"62\" class=\"elementor elementor-62\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6e4128e4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6e4128e4\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7dc16429\" data-id=\"7dc16429\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5fd98c44 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5fd98c44\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #005bbb\"><strong>The ALEVRIADOU VASCULAR MECHANOBIOLOGY LABORATORY (AVML)<\/strong><\/span> is committed to responsibly conducting research on vascular cell responses to changes in the cell\u2019s mechanochemical environment and on the contribution of these responses to cardiovascular disease initiation and progression.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005bbb\"><strong>The AVML goal<\/strong><\/span> is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that lead to vascular endothelial cell dysfunction, a key factor (and potential target for prevention and treatment) of cardiovascular diseases\/conditions, such as atherosclerosis\/coronary artery disease, cardiac ischemia\/reperfusion injury, hypertension, heart failure, diabetes, etc.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005bbb\"><strong>The AVML areas of expertise<\/strong><\/span> include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">in vitro cellular systems that reproduce the mechanochemical environment in vascular health and disease (shear stress and tensile stress), <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">study of endothelial cell oxidative and glycolytic metabolic and lipid metabolic pathways, intracellular signaling (emphasis on mitochondria, calcium, reactive oxygen species, and nitric oxide), gene expression, protein synthesis, and cell survival, and <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\" data-contrast=\"auto\">study of endothelial cell-derived extracellular vesicles as drivers of cardiovascular diseases and potential therapeutic targets, including (mitochondrial and other) cargo characterization and paracrine effects.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005bbb\"><strong>The AVML is directed by<\/strong><\/span> B.
