Dr. Barbara Rita Alevriadou <\/a><\/strong><\/span>is the Empire Innovation Professor in BME, Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS) and School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS), at the University at Buffalo \u2013 The State University of New York (UB-SUNY or SUNY-Buffalo), Buffalo, NY. Dr. Alevriadou received her BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1986 and her PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (Bioengineering & Biosciences Institute) from Rice University, Houston, TX in 1992. Following postdoctoral training in the Department of Molecular & Experimental Medicine at Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, she joined the BME Department of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, as an Assistant Professor. In 2003, she joined the BME Center (became Department in 2008) and the Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute at The Ohio State University as an Associate Professor of BME and Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine. In 2019, she joined the University at Buffalo (UB)-The State University of New York (SUNY) as Empire Innovation Professor in BME. She is an adjunct faculty in Chemical & Biological Engineering, and a faculty member of the Cell, Gene, and Tissue Engineering Center and the Center for Research in Cardiovascular Medicine. Her expertise lies in molecular\/cellular aspects of vascular mechanobiology\/bioengineering, endothelial cell mechanotransduction, and mitochondrial and free radical biology; in general, she is investigating the role of the mechanochemical environment on molecular and cellular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and ischemia\/reperfusion injury. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Heart Association (AHA), and private foundations almost continuouslysince 1996. Dr. Alevriadou is a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) (and served on the Board of Directors, 2014-2017), as well as a member of the AHA, North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO), Society for Redox Biology & Medicine (SfRBM), and American Physiological Society (APS). She served as a member on the NIH Bioengineering, Technology & Surgical Sciences (BTSS) Study Section (2003-2007). She regularly serves as <\/span>ad hoc<\/span><\/i>reviewer on vascular biology- and bioengineering-related NIH, NSF, and AHA study sections. She reviews for cardiovascular and biomedical journals, and is a member of the Editorial Board for the <\/span>American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology<\/span><\/i> (Editorial Board, 2002-2019 and 2022-present; Associate Editor, 2019-2021), <\/span>Physiological Reports<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Scientific Reports-Nature<\/span><\/i>, and the <\/span>NAVBO Alert<\/span><\/i> (2023-present).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
